Sardis to Implement Safety Rules on Dogs
January 7, 2010
Sardis City—Stray dogs loitering the streets will be caught to address the city’s dog problem, city officials have announced the other day after the council authorized Mayor Terry Stephens and City Clerk Doug Gamblin to buy traps to carry out the plan.
The council is also contemplating on implementing a leash law once they observe an increase in dogs loitering around.
Authorities were concerned about the resident’s safety from dog bites. City officials had estimated that there are around seven or eight problem dogs roaming the city. There was a time when it was even more—between 10 or 15 cases.
Gamblin is still negotiating with Etowah County officials if the dogs caught could be sent to their facility. The trap would cost $220 to $320.
