Ethanol Explosion Kills Driver, Could Damage Highway
June 15, 2009
Long Beach – The driver of a truck carrying big volumes of ethanol dies after a solo crash that led to explosion Saturday, authorities said.
Reports indicate that the tanker was carrying about 8,000 gallons of ethanol when it hit a guard rail. The truck then exploded and blazed the overpass which connects State Route 91 and Interstate 710.
In fear that it might have been weakened, officials closed the overpass Monday for inspection and repair to any damages that the flames inflicted.
The identity of the driver is not released while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
