Driver Loses Control over Truck, Hits CHP Officer
May 26, 2009
San Diego – A California Highway patrol officer was hit and dragged by an out-of control truck Tuesday morning as they were investigating an earlier solo-vehicle crash on the scene, reports said.
The unnamed motorcycle officer together with another officer riding a patrol car were in the median on Interstate 15 interviewing the driver of a Chrysler Sebring involved in a solo crash two hours earlier when a Toyota Tacoma appeared shortly before 9 a.m. and hit the median.
Reports indicate that the driver, Brian Joseph Andrews, 43, was travelling along the east lane when the Tacoma suddenly veered onto all lanes. He then slammed onto the officer’s motorcycle and dragged it, along with the officer, 50 feet off its origin.
Rescuers had to get the officer under the truck who was then taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he was treated for lung injuries and abrasions.
Andrews complained of chest pains but was later declared to be in a stable condition.
