Driver Killed, Suspected of DUI and Speeding

ORANGE – David Pop, a 23-year old Orange resident was killed when he lost control of his car and slammed against an SUV at the intersection of Batavia Avenue and Fletcher Street on Wednesday evening.
Authorities suspect that Pop was speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.
According to the investigation, Pop , who was driving a maroon Honda Accord, lost control of his vehicle and hit a curb nor while traveling north on Batavia. The impact threw the Accord across the road and onto oncoming traffic. He then crashed against a GMC Yukon Denali.
Pop was killed at the scene but was fortunate enough to not have any passengers with him in the vehicle. The driver of the Denali complained of pain but did not seek treatment at the hospital. His female passenger on the hand, was taken to the hospital when she complained of pain.
Traffic investigators are still looking for witnesses who may have any information regarding the crash. Orange police Sgt. Dan Adams said that speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this collision.
